These days hackers are getting better at trying to trick users into giving away personal information. Take for example ads where back in the day, it was common to find ads designed to look like Windows popups, thus tricking users into clicking it and potentially install some spyware or malware in the process.

However the good news for iOS 12 users is that it looks like Apple has a solution to that, and that comes in the form of native protection against fake keyboards. Discovered by Redditor p_giguere1, it seems that this feature will help protect users from entering information into fake keyboards while browsing websites using Safari.

According to the post, “To trigger the warning: open a webpage in full-screen mode, for example a full-screen video on YouTube’s mobile website. Then tap several times at the bottom of the screen, as if you were typing on an invisible keyboard. A warning message will appear telling you the website may be showing you a fake keyboard to trick you into disclosing personal or financial information.”

So if you ever come across the warning message like in the screenshot above, then maybe it’s a good idea to stop typing in case you’re in the process of submitting sensitive information. I was personally not able to replicate the warning message, so your mileage may vary.
